To be a good daughter is to be a good woman, but a daughter isn’t a woman just yet

A daughter cannot make womanly decisions. 

A daughter is not ready to be a woman or a matriarch on her own. 

The idea of a “daughter” stems from thousands and thousands of love letters 

–from past daughters, detailing their lives

These love letters protect our daughterly constructs. 

Is tenderness embedded in hundreds of years of oppression truly tenderness? 

–something we have to ask ourselves

“To be a good daughter is to have a sense of self.”

Daughters gain self from past daughters. 

“Do not take away from your brother’s gravity or your father’s sanity.”

a good daughter is quiet. 

a good daughter makes a good woman, a good mother

a good daughter makes a good person.
