Mosaic
I always write the date in the top right corner of cards I write because my dad has always done that. I always hold my breath whilst walking under construction pathways because my childhood best friend told me it was bad luck not to. It’s my natural instinct to hug people around the waist even if they’re shorter than me because my childhood best friends were all taller than me. I always loop my 2s because my primary school math teacher did and I thought it looked more fancy.
One of my high school best friends always writes down good quotes on items in her room whenever she reads them, and so I started keeping a note in my phone of my favorite quotes because of her. I pray every night before bed because my grandmother told me it was the easiest way to fall asleep when I was a little girl. I twirl my wrist before I give a high five because my dad once told me it’s the easiest way to make the hardest hit. I first started singing because my childhood best friend had the most beautiful voice and I still to this day don’t think I’ve met anyone as talented.
I can’t fall asleep without music because my dad used to sing songs to me every night before bed as a child. I always brush my hair from the bottom to the top because that’s the way my mom brushed it when I was little. I write in a hybrid of cursive and print because as a child I was only ever allowed to write in cursive and I never broke the habit. I tell someone when a song reminds me of them because my best friend always tells me and I truly think that it’s the sweetest way you can tell someone you love them.
I always wear a key around my neck because my favorite childhood TV show character did and I thought she was the coolest person ever. My favorite TV show will always be Project Runway because it was the first thing that really made me dream. I love the rain because I was once told that there’s a reason storms don’t last forever and I’ve just never forgotten that. I make it a point to laugh a lot and loud because my favorite thing about my mom is her laugh.
A mosaic is a piece of art made of a collection of small pieces of colored stone, glass or ceramic. Human beings are all mosaics of everyone we’ve ever met. We are a collection of quirks, moments, fragments, and life of everyone we’ve ever known. We copy the things that the people we love do whether we choose to or not, it’s human nature.
Time goes fast when you don’t know who you are. You are a living memory of every person that has ever mattered to you. I hold a piece of every individual who has somehow touched my heart; still carrying learnings and ideas from people who crossed my path even for only a moment. Because when you see love and life in someone, you inevitably adapt a part of them.
Change is one of the greatest concepts we as humans can endure. When we change from the people around us, unique pieces of brilliancy are embedded within our personal parquetry. Every person we meet or know in life is different, bringing their own traits, teachings and perspective on life, you’ll never meet two of the same people.
Encourage yourself to meet and surround yourself with people who challenge your thoughts, impact your habits, and contribute to your personal growth. So yes, we are all a composition of colorful, jagged fragments but those cracks that make us are not flaws, just what holds you together. It is love that shapes our lives.
What makes your mosaic?
