The Back of My Mind
Something twinges in the back of my throat and I heave, lurching over the toilet bowl and spilling my insides into it. It stopped being vomit-colored a while ago, after the second time. Mommy and Daddy aren’t home yet, and they took away my iPad, so I can’t call 9-1-1 for the doctors.
This had to be the one-thousandth time now. The stuff coming out of me is a Charmeleon colored red. I grip my soft kitty stuffie to my chest and whimper gently. A trail of blood is drooling down my chin, and I hastily wipe it away with the sleeve of my uniform shirt.
In the corner of my head, I know I should be begging my neighbors for help now. Tears and blood stain my cheeks, and I’m too weak to do anything.
W-what’s happening to me? Kitty has flecks of food and stomach stuff all over her now, so I chuck her into the bathtub, a croaked sob rushing out of me. Kitty’s kind of gross now...
Pushing away from the toilet bowl, the cool tile burns my frozen hands and legs as I try coughing up what’s in my throat.
“C-cah! Guh,” I break off into real coughs, staggering up to my feet. I’m pretty sure this is another nightmare, as usual. But it’s so… real…
The image of the sink swirls around me and a loopy smile covers my face. Sink’s don't move, I’m dreaming!
Something threatens to jump out of my body and I collapse onto the toilet, spilling out all the rest of the blood. This time, it only tastes like metal, not sour anymore! It doesn’t hurt as much, it kind of feels like sticky water. I have to be getting better!
My body suddenly plummets onto the ground and I try to scream. Nothing comes out, my voice feels like Thomas the Tank Engine went into it.
I can’t hear my hands smacking against the white floor anymore. Nothing is real, nothing is real, nothing is re- pain suddenly sears down my throat like it did the first time. It burns, it burns! Somebody help me! Please!
My tiny body propels itself back against the toilet, gasping and clutching my stomach. This isn’t real! Dried throw up squeezes my cheeks and my bruises from recess tingle at being thrown against the base of the toilet. But it doesn’t feel like anything compared to my throat, my chest, m-my stomach! Pain erupts out of my stomach and I feel myself let out the loudest scream ever. Someone bursts the doors open as I look down to see a massive hole in my belly. Blood explodes out of me, and I relax against the side of the toilet. There’s… like… a Disney troll-like hand gripping the edges of me. I stare at the thing squishing around inside me and look up with wide eyes. Black high-heels lead up to Mommy wearing a fluffy red dress. Her eyes are as wide as a Pokeball, and her mouth is trembling.
I’m… saved…
My eyes blink for me and she covers her mouth with a hand.
“T-Th-Theo?” she whimpers in a tiny voice.
“Hey, Mommy…” My voice is… soft, and… weak, maybe, from all the scr...screaming. Heh. I smile up at her.
A weight leaves… my insides, and a bloody… alien thing comes… out… I lift a suddenly real finger to my eyes, my eyes… My eyes wide with… something, I don’t really know. Maybe… pain… or scariness. Crimson red drapes over my chubby hands, combined with tiny chunks of skin and… bits of my stomach? What?
I get tired quickly, but I can kinda see my Mommy drop onto her knees. I… don’t know where… the baby thing went, but… it’s not here.
My mind blurs like a vignette filter on Daddy’s phone, and I close my eyes. Maybe I hear screaming? Who knows.
I guess this is real.... Huh. Whatever, it’s all in the back of my mind.
