Sea Shells

They washed up by the millions on the sea shore
Sent by the millions of fallen soldiers at war
Sent out by those in need
Like a message in a bottle
But they contained only screams

They were collected by kids on sunny days
Their parents would laugh as they watched them play
The kids they’d play soldier, with a finger and a thumb
They would make a gun
And they’d shoot each other down
Dropping their shells back in the sea
So that they may be drowned

On the other side of the sea the soldiers did the same
So that their kids could continue to play
They were shot down and drowned
Captured and killed
But their shells would be collected
And the kids would be thrilled
